Getting Started with NDIS
Stepping Into A Supported Tomorrow.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) operates on core principles that ensure fairness, accessibility, and tailored support for participants.
- Permanent Condition: The disability must be lifelong, affecting one's ability to complete everyday tasks without support.
- Impact on Day-to-Day Life: This entails a significant functional impairment or psychosocial disability that impacts daily activities or social interactions.
- Requirement for Support: The individual may need assistance now or foreseeably in the future to improve daily activities, manage the impacts of the disability, or reduce future needs.

To be eligible for the NDIS, you must have a permanent disability or a significant impairment that substantially affects your ability to perform everyday activities without assistance. This impairment should be expected to last your entire life or for an extended duration. The NDIS is not intended for temporary disabilities or medical conditions that will likely improve with time.
Eligibility for the NDIS is not solely based on age but rather on your location within Australia. You can access the NDIS if you are under 65 years old at the time of application. To qualify, you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa (PSCV). If you are over 65 and require support, you may be eligible for alternative government-funded services like the Aged Care system.
The NDIS uses a functional impact assessment to determine eligibility. This assessment evaluates the impact of your disability on your daily life and your ability to participate in social and economic activities. You will need to provide detailed information about your current level of functioning, including any difficulties or challenges you face in areas such as mobility, communication, self-care, and social interactions. The assessment may also consider any supporting evidence from healthcare professionals, therapists, or specialists who have worked with you.
